Alex Beds "Five weeks at sea".

I'd be pleased if anyone else had head him or at least of him. This is the sort of CD I'd have if I'd been to a gig. In this case I haven't but it has the same immediate quality - simple production, straightforward presentation - of that sort of CD. The music shines through.

The Beatles "Revolver". I don't know how many times I've listened to this but I haven't listened to it for decades (literally). Taxman - a pop protest sort with surreal imagery (" I twirl the pennies on your eyes"). Eleanor Rigby - a story song told in hints. I'm only sleeping - gloriously existentialist Love to you - Indian Sitar music meets pop and I think the only pop song to fade out in teental (13 beat per bar). Here, there and eveywhere - back to the close harmony love songs we've got used to. Yellow Submarine - first entry to Jasper Carrot's 'Beatles Bummers' riff.

A mixed bag I guess. and when pop groups were expected to knock out a couple of albums a year, the overall quality of this stuff is exceptional.
