I notice on the video Rick Allen is playing a set of simmons hexagonal electric pads. I had some of those second hand in the 90's. Abso, ute crap. Bits of plastic covered plywood with triggers glued to them

Had a right youtube journey tonight and not through any hifi, just the telly. Loved it. Def Leppard, 1970's Aerosmoth, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne!, Zeppelin, Traffic, even a bit of Whitesnake which i enjoyed.

If music be the food of love play on.

David Gilmour 'Live in Gdansk'

Hardly played any Floyd albums in years but I can't get enough of them at the moment, especially the post-Waters releases which feel as if I am coming to them for the first time.

Image

Had to make a new rip from the CD, hadn't heard this in so long it was still in Apple Lossless (ALAC). Now got it on the hard-drive as a WAV file and it sounds 100x times better.
Note to those still using ALAC - you are missing a lot of the music.

Another thing is that I have noticed that as my system improves in transparency, I am playing a lot more live albums. Mostly, I have always preferred studio recordings but the immediacy and vitality of musicians playing for an audience is attracting me more and more.

Roger Waters 'Radio K.A.O.S'

Image

It has been a very long time since I last gave this a listen and it has aged well - comes across as right up to date, in fact, with this new era of global uncertainty and Trump-inspired political instability. Sat and consciously enjoyed the whole album from start to finish, astonishing how many subtle little tweaks and effects I heard. Really, a magnificent record.

My fresh Pink Floyd immersion is bringing me to new places in their universe and I have ordered all the 2011/2016 remasters from 'Atom Heart Mother' onwards - except 'Final Cut' which sounds okay in the 1994 version). There are several Gilmour and Waters albums on the way also. Was umming and ahhing over 'UmmaGumma' - but the live disc is still the 1994 master and not from 2011.

Trivia time: I have been listening to a lot of Icehouse albums in the car of late, their bassist was Guy Pratt who later became the regular bass-player for PF and Gilmour's band.
