Her rendition of The Band Played Waltzing Matilda never fails to astound me.

Kate Rusby has a lovely voice. The only thing I own of hers is Little Lights from 2001 which I haven't played in years, which is a great shame as it's a really good album. I shall play it tonight. Anyone who records a Richard Thompson song is alright in my book.

Re: June Tabor. That anthology released in 1992 is a great introduction to her music, thoroughly recommended.

Michael Tippett: Concerto for Double String Orchestra. I listened to it a lot in my youth, along with a fair bit of Shostakovich and Prokofiev, mainly because my father & stepmother didn't like it.

Wiki - the Nightingales enjoyed cult status in the early '80s as darlings of the credible music scene and were championed by John Peel, who said of them - "Their performances will serve to confirm their excellence when we are far enough distanced from the 1980s to look at the period rationally and other, infinitely better known, bands stand revealed as charlatans".

A personal favourite since first hearing 'Well Done Underdog / The Crunch' in 1982.

Lo-fi...but wonderful.
