That's not strictly true DQ. Although the album 'incorporates' outtakes (from '93-'94, around the time of Division Bell, not Wish You Were Here) they have been completely re-mastered with new parts added and played by musicians old and new - There's a complete line-up for you below. The numbers in brackets are track numbers of course.

Production

David Gilmour – producer
Phil Manzanera – co-producer
Youth – co-producer
Andy Jackson – engineer, co-producer
Damon Iddins – engineer

Pink Floyd

David Gilmour – guitars, vocals, keyboards, piano, EMS VCS 3, bass guitar (2,4,7,17), voice samples
Nick Mason – drums, percussions, voice samples
Richard Wright – Hammond organ, Farfisa organ, pipe organ, piano, Rhodes piano, keyboards, synthesiser, vibraphone, voice samples

Additional musicians

Guy Pratt – bass guitar (9,14)
Bob Ezrin – bass guitar (11,13,18), additional keyboards (1)
Andy Jackson - bass guitar (5,16), effects (15)
Jon Carin – synthesisers (9,11,13), percussion loop (11,13)
Damon Iddins – additional keyboards (4,12)
Anthony Moore – keyboards ("Calling")
Gilad Atzmon – tenor saxophone (7), clarinet (7)

Escala:
Chantal Leverton – viola (18)
Victoria Lyon – violin (18)
Helen Nash – cello (18)
Honor Watson – violin (18)

Durga McBroom – backing vocals (14,17,18)
Louise Marshal – backing vocals (18)
Sarah Brown – backing vocals (18)
Stephen Hawking – voice sample (14)

The closing track, Louder Than Words is the only track to have vocals with lyrics by David Gilmour's wife Polly Samson.
Personally speaking I like the album a lot, but of course I would, because I'm a Pink Floyd fan.

The 'Metallic Spheres' album from The Orb with David Gilmour was quite good, in a trippy, ambient sort of way.
I've just noticed that 'Endless River' can be heard on streaming service Qobuz (as a FLAC file) - so I can find out for myself.
To be continued ...

"As a long time fan of Pink Floyd, even to the extent of buying Half Speed Masters from America, having listened to this latest rendering of very old material that seems to have been picked from out takes from Wish You were Here, I can only say I Wish They Hadn't .

If only Gilmore and Mason had grasped the out stretched hand of Waters when it was offered, with over taping he might had been able to have rescued this album with some of his magic. But sorrily that was not to be, I for one will not be adding it to my collection, sorry Rasher you just ain't gona get to hear it here."

this is from pfm . anybody actually listened to it want to disagree ;)

I have listened to it and liked it a lot. I admit it is mainly from old material but see nothing wrong with that as we are not going to get any new stuff. My favourite Floyd track is Atom Heart Mother and I got the same sort of feel from the new album although it was much later material. I have only listened to it once and I was testing my first mc cartridge in my newly completed Pioneer PL71 so this may have had an effect. The vocal track did not catch me right away but will give it a few more listens.
I must agree that Ummagumma was a bit indulgent but some of it was quite interesting.
This is not the best Floyd record, as far as I am concerned , but I will give it a few more spins before I decide how good it is.
Ps I believe Floyd out takes are much better than much of the music going about at present.

It's not a new Pink Floyd album... But just more of the same. Where have I heard that before? A 'new' release of Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto doesn't make it less worth listening to than a 1933 release by himself. This is wonderful music from modern masters, and should be appreciated as such.

So they make money from it.... and so what?

Compared to a lot of the dross that is being released as music now... it's sublime and from another age. Appreciate it for what it is!

Why should I try to disagree with someone who is, judging by the tone, a fan of Roger Waters era Floyd and hasn't even bothered to spell Dave Gilmour (not GILMORE)'s name correctly. It's a bit like you arguing with someone who loves Genesis, but only before Peter Gabriel left DQ. ;)

I enjoyed it, and including a couple of remix albums and assorted bootlegs I have 59 more by Pink Floyd. That's all I can say. It is what it is, and is in need of no defence or caveat from me.

I was doing some admin and decided to stream 'Endless River' as background music, where it worked rather well.

I am not the worlds greatest Pink Floyd fan - but have enjoyed their music since my schooldays (admit it - who didn't have a battered 'Dark Side of the Moon' LP and a crummy turntable). And yes - I queued with my mates outside a record shop the day 'The Wall' came out, then we went home and played it 5 times end-to-end (music actually meant something back then).

So now, 'The Endless River': Jotted down a few things along the way and here they are:

Opening: Fripp/Eno/Sylvian
Wish You Were Here
Animals
Some aimless guitar soloing
Berlin School synth bit
New Age piano bit
WYWH
soft jazz - not Pink Floyd
Ambient bit - infinite guitar (Eno)
Another Brick in the Wall
Church Organ (Rick Wakeman)
Great guitar solo
WYWH + Stephen Hawking (Radio KAOS?)
More Eno ('Music for Films', Bowie 'Low')
Animals
The Song At The End.

This album does have a definite flow to it with a couple of dynamic high points and several parts of introspective relaxation. The overall mood is melancholic/nostalgic but uplifting rather than sad.
I think I'm going to have to buy a copy after all, if only for old times' sake.
