New Prog Rock Chart.

Unread post by Classicrock »

Official charts company are starting a prog rock chart. I'm sure this reflects a resurgence in interest but as Rick Wakeman says it's 45 years late. I predict this will be dominated by Genesis reissues with Steve Wilson and Steve Hackett close behind.

Prog fans used to be laughed at and ridiculed, but the sheer musical quality of the genre in general has kept the albums in circulation. Obviously there is money to be made here. Record companies anxious to profit from the new market being generated by a younger generation discovering past glories via internet.

I have very mixed views about this. It stinks of the establishment saying "it's ok to like Prog now! which frankly boils my p..s. As does anything Rick Wakeman has to say about the genre. He should stick to sharing hs opinions about frozen meals and playing the piano on Songs Of Praise. I will watch these charts with interest.

Heard of them but I'm not sure they are prog. Actually they are Australian and prog is a brit thing.

Prog mag are asses because they are stretching the genre to include bands I would regard as Indie/Alternative. Muse FFS? Must be run by a bunch of 20 year olds.
