Nice review fella. Again am a bit jealous as I'm a crimson man but reading it under a warm Florida sunrise is making up for it.

I'm a Salford lad myself but didn't make this gig unfortunately. The Lowry is a special place, great acoustics.

I agree regarding Gavin Harrison. I've seen him twice now whilst drumming for Porcupine Tree, and he never fails to impress and astonish with his skill. I miss the late 90's / early 00's period Porcupine Tree, not so much the later stuff.

I have to agree Billy. i have just bought The Sky Moves Sideways on vinyl and to be frank it's the dogs! I'm just not a fan of the later stuff. You are right about The Lowry too. Fantastic place.

Trivia time: Gavin Harrison and Jakko played together in 80's world-music outfit Dizrhythmia. They were also together in a later line-up of Level 42.

I think Jakko replaced the late Alan Murphy in Level 42?

Allan Holdsworth (!!!!!!) played on the album 'Guaranteed' after Alan Murphy died, but Jakko replaced Holdsworth for the tour.

He played with Dave Stewart (National Health/Hatfield & the North) on several projects. And he was the only member of the 21st Century Schizoid Band who had not (then) been in King Crimson. Also did a brilliant album 'We never had it so good' with Tom Robinson.

I have a couple of 12" singles that Jakko released as a solo artist on Stiff Records in the 80's. 'Dangerous Dreams' and 'Who's Fooling Who'.

Admiring his work for many years, I had a secret hope that he would one day do something with Robert Fripp.

The first time I saw Porcupine Tree was at the Manchester Acadamy when Deadwing was released (the last great PT album IMO) and Robert Fripp was the support act, just him on his own playing his soundscapes to a smallish crowd of non-plussed students! That PT gig was special, and Gavin Harrison aside, I can still feel Colin Edwin's basslines coming up through my legs even now.

Going back to The Lowry, I've been many times over the years, and the best was when I managed to wangle a front row seat to see Richard Thompson and band a few years back. To be sat a matter of feet away witnessing greatness, well it was just brilliant. On a par with a similar experience from the 70's watching Rory Gallagher up close.

There's no hifi ever going to replicate that.
