Make your own band - just add imagination.

Unread post by slinger »

Just for fun, assemble a fantasy band that you'd like to hear for real. In fact, make up two or three if the mood takes you.

There are 2 rules...

#1: The players must be alive right now. No dead heroes.
#2: Not so much a rule as a guideline - Try to make up a band that could, in your opinion, actually work together, not just your favourite musicians in each category. It might be harder than you think, but hopefully fun too.

My entry...

Lead Guitar - Mark Knopfler
2nd Lead Guitar - Albert Lee
Rhythm Guitar - Keith Richards
Bass Guitar - Pino Palladino
Piano - Glen D. Hardin
Keyboards - Alan Clark
Drums - Charlie Watts
Amps - NVA P50, AP30, A40, Stanislav Palo Tube Headphone Amp BB 85
Speakers - Monitor Audio Silver RX2
Cables - NVA LS1+LS3, SSC, Gotham S/PDIF, IBRA Optical
Digital - NAD C516BEE, SONY ST-SDB900 DAB TUNER, TEAC UD-H01 DAC
Analogue - Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB, Graham Slee Gram Amp 2 Phono
Cans - Grado SR80, ATH-M50X

DQ kind of beat me to it. I would choose

Alex Lifeson - guitar
Geddy Lee - bass and vocals
Neil Pratt - drums

Can I bend the rules ever so slightly and offer

Jimi Hendrix
Mitch Mitchell
Noel Redding

People of a certain age just look blankly when I say "well that's as likely as a Jimi Hendrix experience reunion"

Somewhere in heaven Chris Squire, Jon Lord and Keith Moon have got together to play some heavy mutant blues based on Bach Cantatas.

My 'dream trio' of Robert Fripp, John Wetton and Bill Bruford has already been done (RIP).

An interesting line-up would be.

Pat Metheny - Guitar
Nick Beggs- Bass/Stick
Tony Levin - Bass/Stick
Jean-Michel Jarre - Synths
Gavin Harrison - Drums
Lisa Gerrard - Vocals

Just trying to imagine what sort of music that group could make sends shivers down my spine.

Twin Chapman Sticks? Now I'd be interested to hear how that sounds. Sort of like Liquid Tension Experiment on steroids perhaps?
