Black Sabbath

Unread post by karatestu »

Any Sabbath lovers out there ?

I have played the first six albums over the last day. Such an evil atmosphere to them. I love it.

I remember in my early 20's going to a Sabbath night at a mate's who had his own house. Lots of beer and head banging to Sabbath until the early hours. Nobody could move their head in the morning

Not funny now of course, but when I was still at school doing my A levels I had a part time job at a supermarket and one of the managers there had a caliper on his leg. We called him Iron Man...

I was one of the few people at school who liked a bit of sabbath. They were the first “proper” band I saw when they played Lewisham odeon in 1975. An incredible night.

It’s easy to forget just how much of a landmark their first album was. Pretty much the blueprint for heavy metal and nobody was doing darkness they way they did it.

Saw them in their final tour at the O2 in London and that show was more retro than Lewisham !

A magnificent band with a legacy that will live for a very long time. They never traded on former glories, never chased fashion and were true to themselves. How many groups can say that.

I still come out with Sabbath lyrics in conversation.

See where you can include stuff like sorcerer of death's construction, tinkling bell, would you like to see tne pope on the end of a rope when talking to friends. It's a good game.

I am gutted. Just realised i have lost my Ozzy Osbourne tribute to Randy Rhoads live album :angry-steamingears:

Love Sabbath, both with Ozzy and Dio. The albums with Tony Martin are also very good. Saw them with Tony Martin and also their last concert with Ozzy in Birmingham, something I will never forget. They are true inovators and have inspired countless bands.

Sabbath were my favourite rock group but I don't listen to much heavy music these days. I got into them shortly before Ozzy left and only saw them with Dio.

Had tickets for the Blizzard of Oz tour but the Newcastle leg got cancelled and Randy Rhodes plane crash happened before it could be rescheduled but I did get to see Ozzy at Donnington and also at Manchester Odeon, what a showman. I think Tony Iommi was underated for a long time but seems to be getting the recognition he deserves now. Bill and Geezer also provided a solid foundation.

I can't say that everything they did was evil, some thoughtful lyrics and I love the way that Fairies Wear Boots is so much fun and boogies. They also did some great instrumentals as well.
Main System. Amp - Luxman LV-120, CD - Pioneer PDX505 & Hitachi DA 401. Turntable - Trio KD-2055/Denon DL-110 & Ortofon VMS20E. Cassette Deck - JVC KD A55. Speakers - Arcam Alpha connected with NVA LS3.

Headphone System - Little Dot Mkiii headphone amp, various vintage CD players into NVA P50 with Sennheiser HD600 and Beyer DT 880
