Maybe a piece of paper is to some, not to me.
Last one I attended was my friends 4th, I wished him the best.
I've been with my partner longer but see no genuine reason to get married.
If I had 20K spare, there are many things I'd rather spend it on!
MARRIAGE.....Any thought's.

Re: MARRIAGE.....Any thought's.
After my first marriage I had absolutely no intention of marrying again. Ten years on my own with many relationships, all good fun. Only problem is when I live on my own I become a health hazard :? Nadia was studying English in Golders Green when I met her, after her course and her visa ran out I married her to keep her here. I have never been to Moscow haven't met her mother and she hasn't been back for nearly 15 years. Best thing I ever did was marry her, relationships are odd things some are love at first sight, they generally don't last. Some grow on you over time, ours is like that to the point we are so happy in each others company now we very rarely bother to go and socialise with others. We have some wonderful arguments as we are both volatile, but then one laughs and we just fall about laughing at the theatre of it all.
As I said before, the most important thing is friendship, if your wife is your best friend then that is the perfect marriage.

I seem to remember Bob Monkhouse saying:
Marriage is a wonderful institution - but who wants to live in an institution?

Re: MARRIAGE.....Any thought's.
At what point can a civil partnership be called a common law marriage and visa versa?
Re: MARRIAGE.....Any thought's.
You can call it what you like, but there is no such thing in law as a common law marriage; in the eyes of the law (eg for inheritance purposes) only a 'proper' marriage (ie with a marriage certificate) or a civil partnership counts. However many years you've lived with someone, if you don't have a marriage certificate or proof of civil partnership, if you die intestate he/she will have no claim on your estate.Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:At what point can a civil partnership be called a common law marriage and visa versa?

I thought it was something to do with only the rich and landed got married in the middle ages and even after, everyone else got a girl pregnant and then jumped the broomstick (pagan tradition).
