Depends how old you are.

Young - something to be avoided
not so young - fear of getting older so becomes important to find someone.
the middle bit - bigger fear of getting older so think you are missing out by being married, and get "the itch".
getting toward the end - she is your best friend (or should be) if not you should have changed her earlier in the middle bit.
the end bit - mutual spiritual love and friendship that makes the whole process complete and worthwhile.

Sex - just so much delusion and posturing. It is for making babies, full stop. Apart from that it is entertainment when you have nothing better to do.
