Can I suggest the problem is the religion bit. Having a philosophy that says "Love one another" is fine, but the religion bit adds in the belief in imaginary friends, and a whole set of other rules provided by said imaginary friend. And normally a creation story that puts one tribe or another further up a pecking list, plus a belief in some form or another of existence once death has converted us into compost, so dying in the service of the imaginary friend is not the end just the beginning of wonders. Oh, and a group or special people who are somehow promoted to be the voice of that imaginary friend. Of course, if it wasn’t imaginary, everyone could talk to him or her or it and not need the special people as go betweens.Geoff.R.G wrote:I see nothing wrong with a religion that says "Love one another"

Well it is part of the system, catch them so young they cannot have an opinion, make it seem undoubtable, make it socially unacceptable to question it.
It is serious problem for anyone who is caught up in it, from the aspect of any religion, to actually break through the programming to the freedom of reality. Muslims have an extra incentive, you *can't* leave, you then have a sentence of death on you - ultimate incentive to be / remain an idiot.
I must admit to finding the religions rooted in the Judeo, Christian, Islamic path to be the most abhorrent and find the Hindus and Buddhists for example quite mild in comparison.

What if I told you, I actually met God once.......
This thread has drifted a tad, perhaps the mods could pop the last few posts over to the classic "Religion is Crap....Discuss" thread.
