The Artisan

Unread post by Dr Bunsen Honeydew »

"The rise of artisan craft is here to stay. In some categories, we think craft will really take over the mainstream segments, and like it or not, the larger companies really have to deal with the consequences of what that means."

The problem with artisan is price . NVA aside , it is primarily sold at a premium to the competition . Now that is not to say that the price is not worth it , it is simply to say it is priced higher than the competition. We live in a county at the moment were the majority of peoples disposable income is declining and thus premium priced products are harder to sell.

of course an elite of between 10% and 15% are becoming wealthier and that is why you can buy cars for £2 million quid. In 1985 a Saab 900 would cost you £9000 a Rover 800 viisse £18,000, top of range Ferrari £60,000. In 30 years , the prices have polarised massively on account on the polarisation of wealth.

At the moment artisan economy is very much at the luxury end of the market .

That is because they have to be, as time goes on they won't have to be, we will see how many change.

I agree , the current momentum will need to be arrested sooner or later or there will be violent revolution as the economy , which is nothing more the sum of goods circulated and exchanged , will tank.

My 3 year old daughter is at the head of this craft explosion. She makes her own cards all the time. Watch out moonpig.

It is to be applauded. I hate big business with a vengeance - a faceless, non caring could not give a shit attitude with pleasing the shareholders being the only motivation. Fook them.

+1 I work for one such company and they treat there staff like a nappy but look out for all the senior staff who strangely never get made redundant and always have big inflated salaries we call them the 'grown ups' they have been to business school and have never learned by doing and the decisions they make are laughable its the people below them that have the knowledge and skill but if there lucky get a 0.5% pay rise.

Actually in general its not Cars that have gone up and effect us all as you can get great finance on a Car and finance is another matter altogether but its the price of Housing and food that is well out of proportion we now have to use Aldi to save money although some of the products are fab value.

Anyway getting back on topic Artisan has got a bad name from say hipsters selling fancy bread etc and before that it was something hugely expensive wrought iron product from Italy that was considered artisan and its now been used by marketing chancers as another term and sorry to appear negative but we live in a BS hyped media world.

At the moment artisan economy is very much at the luxury end of the market .
