I will live with it if I can stay on Active topics and not be kicked out to that front page again everytime I do something. Can I stay there and only come out at my choice.

Perhaps we need to look at a new format for that front page.

I normally right click and select "Open in a new tab" but I doubt many people want to exit the forum when going to a link.

Hold the control key is the easier work-round, for me.

I agree that the default should be to auto-open external links in a new tab.
