Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak

Unread post by CN211276 »

Gove said this morning that the restrictions are being introduced now because the infection rate is higher than expected. The scientists predicted this in September. The Welsh Government followed the advice and the fire break came into force last weekend although the situation in Wales was nowhere near as bad as in England. I was an official of Mark Drakeford when he was health minister, putting together briefings and attending meetings. Professional advice was always followed. This was of course in pre Covid days when the UK Government, pre these clowns, would often deviate from professional advice to court popularity.

I think the next thing they go back on will be keeping schools open as the evidence is showing that secondary schools in particular are a significant source of infection. The Welsh fire break, following the scientific advice, was timed for half term with secondary schools shut for two weeks.

This English lockdown is not going far enough and came too late. I'm sure that as a result it will have to go on a lot longer with support from Labour as there seem to be a lot of idiots on the toty benches with similar views on Covid to Trump.

In The Netherlands we have been in a semi-lockdown (bars & restaurants shut, no large groups) since the beginning of october and after a month the infection rates are finally going into a gradual decline. However it is not going fast enough and more rigid measures may well be announced tomorrow.

The effectiveness of the lockdown is visible - but everyone has to be consequent in their actions and work together for the good of all. A large number of illegal Halloween parties were stopped here this weekend and many, especially young, people are not bothering with observing the rules.

As someone who has had Corona (now over it) I can only say it is NO JOKE and you really don't want anyone to catch it - especially the elderly and infirm.

Glad you got over it and are ok. There are a lot of reports of long term lasting effects. I think water cannons should be used on groups who blatently ignore the regulations and fines should be more draconian. Hospitality should remain closed, except for out door seating and take aways. It is going to be a nightmare winter throughout Europe, the situation in the UK being made worse by the inept, corrupt, incompetent Government.

Having originally insisted that the furlough scheme would end on 31st October, then being forced to extend it until the end of December, now announced that it will run to end of March.

Scheme will be renamed...'eat words to help out'

Better late than never. Shame that some had already been made redundant.

If think it says everything about their level of confidence in this half arsed lock down being able to be lifted on 2 December.
