VE day

Unread post by karatestu »

We will remember them.

I worked this morning but stopped for two minutes at 11 am prompted by Ken Bruce. Came home for a 1940's style tea party for lunch. Played my Best of Buddy Rich CD one of three which is mostly 1940's stuff. Thoroughly enyoyed it. Should have been playing drums at a local festival today but never mind.

Had a couple of Presecco with elderflower liquer added. Yummy. Moved onto San Miguel now because any more Prosecco and I would be mullered by seven O'clock.

Don't forget those who fought and died in the wars. My great grandad survived gas and shrapnel in his leg during the first world war. I have his walking stick for when I am wobbly on my feet. Rest of my family were always farmers so didn't get called up.

I certainly haven't forgotten, just wonder what some of those fallen heroes would think if they came back today.
On a similar theme we were watching old episode of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' ( how sad can you be ) and one question was what date was D Day. The four answers being 6th April, 6th May, 6th June and the 6th July and the contestant had to ask the audience. The amazing thing was he would have been approx my age. :o

My grandad was a guard in a prisoner of war camp in Scotland during most of WW2. On one leave he brought a cured side of red salmon home to Walthamstow. Extended family excitedly gathered around the dining table to get a slice each of this rare treat, but Just as they were about to tuck in, the air raid siren went off (the German bombers used the River Lea as a navigation guide and would often offload any leftovers on their way home).

A couple of bombs fell in the next street, and when everyone got up from under the table, they found my Uncle Norman (he was 7 at the time) kneeling on the tabletop, having devoured all but one slice of the salmon.

I asked my mother today about VE Day and she said that she couldn’t really remember much about it.

A few months ago she said that she had met Churchill on one of his “walkabouts”. We didn’t know anything about this until she just said it out of the blue. A different generation with a different attitude. I’ve been expecting her to say that cv-19 has brought the country to some sort of war footing. Then again, she knows what real conflict is.

Coved 19 has killed more people on the British main land than Hitler. Thosands upon thousands have lost loved ones. Will they take action against Demonic Dom and Johnson through the courts? I am thinking of the incompetence and cover up over Hilsborough as a comparison on a far smaller scale.
