Should Huawei be removed from UK systems.

Unread post by valvesRus »

Should Huawei be removed from UK telecommunications systems ?

Is there a real threat of Chinese "interference" in matters of national security, or is the risk minimal, and people are scaremongering ?

I say, be gone with them, I would not trust the Chinese not to spy on us, or anyone else in the world.

Blimey, are you going "full Trump" on us, CN211276?

I fully believe that the Chinese government will use whatever means that they can to spy on the rest of the world. I also want to side with Huawei simply because Donald Trump doesn't.

I wonder though if Huawei isn't "taking one for the team" and acting as a misdirection while the actual threat is far more insidious and far more deeply buried. Currently our 'government' (and I use that word in its ironic sense) it mumbling about having them lay the groundwork while we suss out an alternative and then ripping every bit of their kit, including what exists already, out by 2025. BT have just told HMG it'll be impossible to achieve that before 2030.

Still, we've just bought a failed satellite company with the wrong sort of satellites to do the job we bought it for, so everyone's phone service crashing and burning at the same time we exit the EU and no longer have access to their satellite network, you know, the one that currently makes out GPS work, who's going to notice?

As usual, it's been completely mishandled by the government. Everything has been left to the last bloody minute, and I'd say we're going to be stuck with Huawei providing some of the components of our phone service for a while at least. With the fallout from Brexit, they'll hardly have time for little problems like China knowing when Johnson changes his underpants or our nuclear capability.

Everything - and I do mean everything - is currently slated to be blamed on complications arising from Brexit, the general public, and damn foreigners in general. The only stumbling block at the moment is how to shift all of that blame on to Jeremy Corbyn.

To be honest, I don't think using Huawei is going to make a whole Hell of a lot of difference. If the Chinese want to know what we're doing they'll find out, and probably not via such a high-profile means.

But that ( the cheapest supplier) is why we import SO MUCH from China, at the expense of our own industry which means there is probably no home grown suppliers any more, or perhaps only the upper echelon which are beyond the reach of most.

The Chinese, are a nation of lying, cheating and insanely cruel savages who deserve no place in a modern world. As CN211276 says, the entire civilised world needs to round on them now and force change upon them. They are almost solely responsible for the near extinction / extinction of so many of our worlds exotic animals due to their f***ing bizarre traditional medicines and disgusting penchant for eating absolutely anything that moves, the more exotic the better! Also, if they can inflict torture and pain on it before eating it, often while it's still alive, they will, . I don't trust ANY of the world's governing bodies, but the level of loathing and mis-trust I have for the Chinese is on another level all together. Savages!

Exactly this, no idea if there's any misdirection here but anyone thinking binning Huawei removes the threat, whether real or perceived, is massively deluded I'm afraid. No matter what your view of the Chinese the one thing they aren't is stupid.....

Damning all Chinese people as liars, cheats and savages would be as moronic as me reading a few comments on a hifi forum and concluding that all British people are emotionally incontinent racists.

Espionage and manipulation of foreign governments are practices that the West have been employing for hundreds of years. The main complaint against the chinese government, today, seems to be that they have become more efficient, ruthless and skilful at it than ourselves.

I would certainly remove Huawei from our telecommunications system, if the security advice is to do so, but it doesn't say much about our strategic capabilities that doing so would cause extensive and life threatening blackouts in the system.

Freedom of speech is under threat in a modern world too concerned with offence. Who was it who said "You're offended...? So fucking what?!"
This post is a really good example of one reason why I value free speech: I now have a better understanding of zebo's personality and can place any of his future comments in that context.

Interesting viewpoints

Reality is it makes f*ck all difference who provides our 5g infrastructure. There will be no material difference to our day to day lives regardless of who provides our 5g.
