Another Goodmans Magnum project
A couple of weeks ago I received lots of advice regarding refurbishing an old pair of Goodman's Magnum speakers. I picked up the steel plates earlier this week so I'm about to make a start.
Before that, they had one last tour of duty at a works family day yesterday. We used the factory transport yard to set up lots of fun activities for the kiddies and the Goodman's were the main music providers. Considering the size of the yard (which is huge) I was amazed at how much sound they put out. The amp was an old Rotel 1970's receiver , no more the 20W per channel at best but the volume dial was at 4 max. Kept going for 6 hours + and got better as the day went on.

Re: Another Goodmans Magnum project
I've started to steel line the cabinets and changed the speaker connections.

Re: Another Goodmans Magnum project
Steel plates are now fitted. I've gone over the internal cabinet joints with glue to ensure that the cabinets are air tight. The Bison fix glue is here along with the rubber coat spray, next task is to sort some new tweeters.
The DIY community seem to rate a 'HiVi 1XA model' highly. They are a good fit for the cabinet and within budget. There has been very little on ebay that is of interest, sellers are asking crazy money for old budget model strip outs and there are few alternatives for secondhand gear. I'd prefer to buy new & I'm ready to rewire once I get new tweeters. Will need some guidance if that's ok regarding connecting capacitor and resistors for the tweeters.
cheers

How much do you want to spend on tweeters and what is the hole diameter.

I can supply you with two of my rebuilt Chinese silk drivers I use in the Cubettes for £40 plus £6 postage. The magnets will go through 72mm (just) but you will have to open out slots with a file or drill of about 6mm for the terminals. One each side of the driver hole.

Sounds great, I can open out some slots on the cabinet, the hole has a rebate at the back of the panel so it should be straight forward job. Send the payment details and I'll order them today.
