Re: Ask a designer
It is just a series / parallel thing. A normal stereo amp the two amps are in parallel, if changed or switched to bridged they work in series.
Re: Ask a designer
Doc we spoke a while ago about open baffle speakers and you said you had a design in your head for one. I have been thinking and toying with the idea of making a pair. Would the Goodman's 12 inch driver as used in the magnum be suitable used in conjunction with your doc mod drivers and tweeters?

Re: Ask a designer
Hi Doc,
A number of months ago i removed the crossovers from my speakers and paced them as close to my amps as possible (6").
I was amazed at the increased clarity of the music.
I wondered if you could think of any reason this might be?
Many thanks, Stu

Re: Ask a designer
Depends on too many things to answer. *That* crossover (complexity) and speaker and speaker cable and amplifier and your hearing and your mental perception obviously benefited, the danger is now you will apply it as an *universal answer* and it isn't.
I have found on occasion the opposite to be true.

Re: Ask a designer
Thanks for the reply.
A little more information although that may not change your answer.
Amps are monoblock Avondale NCC200 based. 5M of Avondale blacklink cable to B&W P4 speakers. Speakers are 2 way quarter wave tapered transmission lines. Mid bass is kevlar, tweeter is metal dome with ferrofluid . Average sensetivity of 87dB and nominal 8 ohm load which dips to 4 ohm at certain frequencies.
Low pass filter is a single iron cored inductor. (1st order?)
High pass filter goes
series 1.5 R
series 6.8uf cap
air cored inductor to ground
series 10uf cap
so third order?
Not as simple a crossover as i would like.

Re: Ask a designer
If it does it for you then be happy. Personally with the simple non crossovers I use I would start the other end, as close to the driver as possible.

Re: Ask a designer
Just an idle question really but I've always used a pair of 41/2" diagonal side cutters to strip cable and wire. (I walked away from BT with a nice pair of Lindstroms...amongst other things. )
Do you use any 'special' tools to make stripping cable easier?
