Re: Your last listen
One of the (few) contemporary bands whose new albums I automatically buy is The National, and so I find myself listening to their latest 'Sleep Well Beast'.
The National - 'The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness'
I found their last two albums ('High Violet' and 'Trouble Will Find Me') to be lacking it focus and 'balls' when compared to the soul-wrenching guitar assault of earlier efforts like 'Boxer' and 'Alligator'. And the new release falls somewhere in-between.
There is a maturity and reflective air to many of the tracks - but the band aren't afraid to rock out when necessary and the songs are well-constructed and memorable. The second track 'Day I Die' is a killer - classic National, brilliant!
Their best for a while - well worth a listen.

Re: Your last listen
An old favourite, I've still to see Ben Harper live. I hope he tours the UK again. In the past I've always taken this along as one of my reference CDs when demoing speakers.

Re: Your last listen
There's a new Neil Young album! Yay!
It's an old Neil Young album from 1975 ! Double-yay !!
'Hitchhiker' contains some familiar Young songs like 'Pocohontas' and 'Powderfinger' in solo, acoustic settings. Comes across as a sort of demo session but it was recorded by NY's engineer/producer David Briggs and sounds just fine, with Neil in truly excellent vocal form.
If you like the quieter and more introspective side of NY's output then this is a must.

Re: Your last listen
I like Neil Young and this is a worthy addition to his catalogue. I thought some of the songs are later than 1975.Fretless wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 12:19 pm There's a new Neil Young album! Yay!

Re: Your last listen
Finally got hold of the 'Definitive Edition Remaster' CD of 'Seconds Out' and it sounds like they remixed it to put Hackett's guitar parts back in. The rest of the band took him out of the mix in spite when he announced that he was leaving to go solo.
Also on this version I am hearing a lot more of Mike Rutherford's very subtle and intricate bass parts.
And this album is a monster - the mighty Genesis at their absolute peak !!
