Re: Pioneer PL-71 Refurbishment
If it proves stubborn, jack up the platter against the top plate with a couple of wood wedges, then give the spindle a sharp tap with a hammer. That will shock the taper free. Works every time, just don't follow through with the hammer.

Sharp tug applied and platter is off.
Thanks all. It is nice that the platter mat still has the little chrome ring near the spindle. Seen a lot of pics with it missing.
Time to start my own thread I think although progress will be slow.

Don't forget the speaker project updates and the amp fiddling. You really should finish one first, where are the BBCubes up to now.

Re: Pioneer PL-71 Refurbishment
Apologies, I'm late to removing platter..
Glad you got it off with a sharp tug Stu.
I put index finger in each hole in the platter and apply thumbs to spindle, pull with fingers and press with thumbs - platter comes of the taper easily, no need for wedges.
Alfi.

Speakers haven't really moved on recently. Been too busy listening to the new LS6 I put in. Marvellous, I have never been so happy with the music. I will be doing more on them, I promise.Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 1:20 pm Don't forget the speaker project updates and the amp fiddling. Too many things on the go, I know, I know I have lots to do with CDP and amps as well. I often find that one experiment (and the results) has a knock on effect with everything else so I go off on a tangent and play with something else for a while . It's like a merry go round and a bit exhausting at times but it's the way I work .
Head is full of stuff.

Your way sounds good as it won't shock anything. Had images of platter coming off at 100mph and smashing dust cover but it didn't take too much of a tug in the end
I will have two cartridges available to use. Lyra Argo (take it off my Aro) and the Asaka that comes with the PT1. Choices, choices.....

I have that on vinyl and a Wurzels compilation CD. Gets played now again. How's about "Blackdird i'll 'ave 'ee" or "champion dung spreader" - classics
