Snake Oil
Not the forum
We have discussed here the grey area between things that are not (at the moment) proved by science or measurement like cable differences and the real Snake oil stuff. Well I have an example here from Gazjam at TAS :-
"Going back to SR Fuses...
Currently modding the bejezus out of my Oppo 203 bluray player, and fitted an internal linear power supply to it, which had an AMR Gold fuse fitted.
Room for improvement, so took a punt on SR's new Blue fuse and replaced the AMR with it.
Hell yeah.
Big leap in both audio and video quality even with the linear psu fitted.
All I did was change the fuse.
Not making any final judgement as its a new PSU, new fuse, new IEC inlet, new internal cabling so things will change over the next couple of weeks.
That foirst impression though, yup...the fuse makes the player sound significantly better to me than with the AMR Gold fitted."
I suppose we have to put it in the grey area, but from my experience there is no difference to the sound (haven't tried picture quality ) from changing fuses. The real clue about this is the price they are charging for them, a complete rip-off, it is one of the latest slurps. I suspect, but cannot prove, there is some underhand shilling and opportunism going on, it is the only thing that makes any sense to me.

Re: Snake Oil
We get back to the argument that if fuses make a difference and can improve sound and is that better than not having the fuse in the first place. Again these people seem to say that it is, which is a very dubious concept unless the music is being altered from its originality - nothing can only produce nothing.
I use no fuse at all in my products - not one! I do things differently. So the only fuse I can change is the one in the UK mains plug. So given the logic of my argument as applied to them then NVA products MUST be superior. The argument is that fuses are required for safety - NOT if you use ClassII construction regs they aren't. AND even the fuse in the plug is no longer needed if you are lucky enough to run a radial mains distribution system, and not the daft and dangerous British ring mains system.
So if someone says that any fuse, even the ludicrously priced ones, can be better than no fuse at all, and that costs nothing, then they are either a slurping crook or bonkers.

Re: Snake Oil
It seems MartinT has fallen for the bullshit and bought two of them for his regenerator, well more fool you, if you had bought the NVA BMU when you had the chance you wouldn't be wasting over £100 on two fuses. As the BMU neither has them or needs them. AND as should be obvious even for a snob who likes bragging about his rip off purchases from his in house slurper dealer, NO fuse, no matter how expensive or bullshitted, can possibly be better than no fuse at all.

Re: Snake Oil
Too cheap. I won't believe they work unless they are at least £10k. At only £3k they clearly lack belief in their product.
I really want to meet the 2 people who gave it glowing review...

Re: Snake Oil
Its a £130 major up-grade, if it was anything simple like a set of squash balls on a corian chopping board then it would be praised, the fact its a fuse causes many to poo poo it.
I am in the hi-fi trade
