Any member got one of the aforementioned passive pre amps lurking about that they would be prepared to move on?

If you can't get a bite here, you might like to check out the Tisbury mini passive pre-amp. From memory, about £150.00 although a 2nd hand one might be cheaper.

Schiit also do a little passive preamp, the Schiit Sys. Only 60 pounds on UK site.

I will have a P50 available soon, bought last June, if it's not outside your budget.... (£150 plus post)

Try them, side by side.

If you can buy the P50 for £150 then you are getting it for pretty much for what it costs to make.

The P50 can also be upgraded with stepped attenuator and silver plated wiring, when you are ready for the 'next level'.
