Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
I probably just spend too much time talking to other moaning old lefties. You're right about people happy to be told what to do, though. More people need (in my biased opinion) to be prepared to question the status quo and hold this government to account.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
With 600 plus a day dying I think it's a good time to put up and shut up and leave petty politics to another time. Of course there have been errors looking in hindsight and maybe the government have the wrong 'experts'. At least we haven't got Trump or that chap in Sweden. Their stupidity would provide good entertainment in a less life threatening situation. It can be dangerous to hide behind experts and maybe gut instinct is more the way to go in an emergency than looking at science alone.

You just described Trump's entire gameplan.Classicrock wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 1:14 pm ...It can be dangerous to hide behind experts and maybe gut instinct is more the way to go in an emergency than looking at science alone.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
Sweden has fewer deaths per head of population than the UK and they haven't had an economy wrecking lockdown.
I can't find any reason to criticise the Swedish Governemnt over their handling of Coronavirus.
I've just finished reading James Comey's book, which tells his side of the story of being the head of the FBI under Obama and Trump.
The final chapters were quite an eye opener on Trump. Who came across as a man that's incapable of telling accurate truths on a consistent basis. Instead his natural disposition is to lie or exagerate on an industrial scale. Which seems like the signs of someone that is insecure. He also, in private conversations dominates the talking.
Comey's book is backed up by a basic Google search on "Donald Trump lies".
The things that Trump lies or exagerates are often childish things like how many people were at his inaugaration ceremony.
Who cares how many people were there? Why bother exagerating it? He did it because he can't help himself. It's an ingrained core part of who he is.
And in my opinion that makes him unfit for any job where honesty or integrity or man management are important.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
As far as I'm aware, currently the death toll is approx the same. 1300 deaths a day. It is just 600 to 700 are being attributed to cronovirus.
Experts give facts. You cannot have the wrong expert. What you do with the facts they give you is politics.

It is my understwnding that Sweden banned mass gatherings early on. Here we had all the Government about herd imunity until they turned track when things got out of control.

It will be 'interesting' to see Sweden's figures 3 or 4 weeks from now...

Herd immunity and economic damage are important factors. I'd like to know what advise caused them to change their minds.
We've still got 20,000 dead currently and no mingling and have borrowed the cost of hs2 bailing people out.

I think the debate is mainly about competence and transparency. Politics is secondary.Classicrock wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 1:14 pm With 600 plus a day dying I think it's a good time to put up and shut up and leave petty politics to another time.

I would like to see the minutes of the SAGE meetings. I think 30,000 deaths would be a more accurate figure taking into account those who died outside hospitals.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 4:08 pm Herd immunity and economic damage are important factors.
