I see PMC speakers promoted a lot on social media and generally it’s the same story- ‘fantastic speakers’ but mega ££££s
Does anyone own them, are they as good as they say or is this another marketing assault
Cheers

Re: PMC
From what I've seen and heard...the 'consumer' range are cheap drivers with complex crossovers attempting to disguise their problems. Voiced to impress in a dem room - bright. Nice looking, £2000 plant stands, imo.
Another speaker that makes it's own problems and then throws (your) money at treating the symptoms.
The professional range may be different, but mega bucks.

Re: PMC
PMT's?
Sometimes swapping one letter tell you all you need to know.
Or at least all you need to know of my opinion on the ones I've heard so far.
I'm not a fan of slimline low efficiency non-sealed box speakers.
What I don't understand is that you see people saying they have great bass. Great bass compared to what? An alarm clock radio?
The PMT's I've heard would be worth buying, according to my buying scale, if you could buy them for £100 to £200.
Although my scale may be out of date as I've not bought any speakers for years now.

Re: PMC
The MB2S XBD studio monitor appears to be a snip at $44,000!
No thanks, I'll pass on those.
The domestic speakers are just expensive, floor standers at £3,500 and Bookshelf/stand mount £1,500. I have to say that their design, leaning backwards offends me, as an engineer, it just looks wrong and quite often something that looks wrong is wrong.

Re: PMC
I've never heard music through PMC speakers but the fact that they lean backwards interests me. I used to have a pair of Rega R3's that sounded better tilted back as far as their stands/spikes would allow. I replaced them with a pair of Acoustic Energy AE 100's and made a pair of stands for them that were only about 28cm high at the front and tilted the speakers back by about 15 degrees. It benefited the sound by opening it up and meant the speakers were less obvious in the room. My RSW speakers sit on custom made acrylic legs and also tilt backwards. The sound is better, the speakers are less obtrusive and if anyone puts a plant-pot on them it slides off.
It's an easy thing to experiment with (not the plant-pot bit).

Re: PMC
Speakers tilted backwards, or forwards don't give me the slightest problem but trapezoidal sides just look very wrong. Anyway I don't have a spare £3,000 for speakers nor do I have a local Hi-Fi dealer to demonstrate them if I did.OrangeFixie wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 2:50 pm I've never heard music through PMC speakers but the fact that they lean backwards interests me. Re: PMC
Remember what Doc used to say about bass drivers and firing them in phase with the floor (up). I would say a baffle leaning backwards would be even worse for moving with bass energy than one at 90 deg to the floor. Leaning back however will do wonders for time alignment if that's your thing.
