Does he know it's a port? Does he know what a port is? Does he know that some companies actually do have ships? Has he found got somebody to find Suffolk on the map yet?

There are no real benefits, as most rational people know.

The biggest and scariest aspect of all this though is how many people voted for it and also how many people voted for Trump.

The future is more uncertain than I can ever recall. The morons are taking over

Hopefully the current wave of populist political disasters like the Brexit and Trump's presidency will make us all think before we cast a vote in future.

But - people are basically stupid and listen to those who shout the loudest, playing on their fears and saying the things they want to hear.

Hopeless, really. :snooty:

Once stupid people give power to arseholes like Trump, Viktor Orban et al, history teaches us that it is completely impossible to remove them without resorting to all out war and hundreds of thousands of deaths.

People usually have to see the full consequences of their decisions before they will accept reality. Unfortunately, those who saw through it will also suffer.

The thing that most Brexiteers say to me (apart from immigration) is sovereignty. But they don't seem to know what they want to do with it. Not much solace in sovereignty if you lose your job or your business because the terms of trade with the EU are unbearable. In the modern world, the UK will always follow rules it agrees with others rather than make the rules for others. Brexit ensures we no longer have a say in the rules we will follow.

I suspect that the EU might, if they feel they have to, put up with 'no deal' for 6 months or so in order to demonstrate reality. It's tempting to think of Brexit as the failure of voters, but I think it is the failure of our politicians since the second world war. We should be leading in Europe, not leaving it. Merkel and Macron must be laughing...

The big problem in this country is the populist press. People actually believe the lies constantly spouted in the Sun, Mail and Express. They are oblivious to the fact that those responsible are a tiny minority who will profit from Brexit.
