This might not be the right place for this, but to get to the point; I arrived from Greece on Monday and discovered that the West of Scotland had had a deluge on the previous Saturday and my listening room had been flooded There was water inside my lovely A80s. I took off the front panels, in the manner described by Richard, poured out the water, left them to drain and then gently heated them with a hair dryer. I have left them in a dry room and was wondering if it was safe to turn them on.
My other NVA stuff maybe had some damp air in them but I am hoping they are ok. My doc modded Goodman Dimension 8s are wet at the bottom but again I am hopeful they will be ok.
Any comments or advice would be welcome.
Ps My last project, which was a big power supply for my A30, made a huge difference to the sound.

Re: Damp A80 Mk 1s
If it was me I would disconnect the power to the boards and test the power supply first.
I would also replace a few components such as the cement wire wound resistors and even the Darlington transistors
Unfortunately I think it might be suck it n see and get an insurance claim for a new set

Re: Damp A80 Mk 1s
What lateman says is good advise , if a little ott for my patience .
If it were me , I'd leave for a couple of days to make sure they had a chance to naturally dry , turn on and wait .

Re: Damp A80 Mk 1s
I would like to follow Latteman's advice but I am sure i would destroy my amps. The problem with the insurance claim is that,on reading my policy carefully, I find that I should have mentioned them as expensive items. I can only claim the second-hand value and that wouldn't stretch to a new set, and I really like these amps.
I will probably go with Daniel's advice and if there is smoke aim for a repair, which would probably be covered by the insurance.
PS Daniel the transformer you gave me is still go strong and the replacement power source with ,a huge transformer , I build is still going well.

Re: Damp A80 Mk 1s
I presume A80 were not plugged to power ? if "yes" keep on reading if "no" DO NOT TURN THEM ON
how much water was inside ?
was only caps bridge rectifier and transformer covered in water ?
or did water got to boards ?
Does transforme shows any signs that water got inside - under insulation ?

They were not powered up. Possibly only transformers, caps and rectifier covered but I cant be sure. I was on holiday but neighbors say water went down quickly.
No sign water got under insulation.

I've pointed Tomasz to this thread by PM. I'm not sure if he's around this weekend.

Ok if you not sure and you not sure if you can do it yourself I would strongly recommend send it to us.
Mark will be able to to test it quickly but disconnection of board ( most expensive part) is crucial before testing psu section
