If you purchase doc drivers it will not matter eventually. But try it for your own learning experience.

Thanks DQ.

I have been thinking (dangerous).

All this talk about steel lining wooden enclosures - would it be a good idea to fabricate some steel enclosures and forget about the timber altogether ? I have a welder, can weld and have some mild steel of 6mm thickness laying around somewhere.

Don't know not done it, others have, metal cabinets are well known, but then they ruin it by adding damping. Townsend cabs were metal, I think aluminium then they line inside with thick carpet and something else, I think it was plaster. You want enough mass so the cabinet wont talk, 6mm may do I don't know, 6mm plus wood doesn't.

Thanks all.

The speakers i will attempt to mod are Mordaunt short MS902S. A richer sound special from around 2000.

I have dismantled one. The rear panel comes off so easy to get in. The front panel though has some crappy plastic overlay over the top.

I was surprised to see the crossover, or lack of. Single inductor for the low pass filter and two bennic electro's in parallel for the high pass filter. Not that this matters as they will be landfill eventually. Not even a resistor in sight.

Not sure how big the drivers are as i don't know exactly which dimensions i should be measuring. Mid/bass is about 5 1/2" and tweeter around 1 3/4". I think a bit of bodging is going to be required here. The original drivers are bolted in from the inside of the cabinet and have to be taken out of the rear of the cabinet once the rear panel has been removed.Might just replace the rear panel with one made of 6mm steel !

Looked at the Visaton tweeter and the cheapest seems to Farnell cpc at £46.51. Bison kit also needed along with some 6mm steel plate of course. There is some annoying bracing inside the cabinet in a ring all the way around, about half way from front to back. Not sure if i should try and remove that ? Anyone one here used any thicker than that? Say 10mm and the internal volume will be reduced somewhat !

I can do my Doc Modded Chinese silk dome for a lot less than that it is listed here. Some here use them they will tell you what they are like.

Do it all in order.

1/ remove wadding and listen.

How about Celestion Ditton 15. Found some local to me. Already use a doped driver but also have a stupid passive bass radiator.

Celestion Ditton 15

Other speakers i have found are Wharfedale Linton 2.
