You're a computer genius Fretless, well done and thank you.
I'm sure Savvypaul may also be able to take advantage of all your hard work.

Formatted a USB flash drive to FAT32

Created partition 'MUSIC'

Copied in folder containing Journey's 'Escape' (music choice is optional according to taste)

Ejected drive properly from Windows

Tinkerboard :

Turn on 'Wireless Networking' and save

Turn on 'Enable Hotspot' and save

Shut down TB

Disconnect ethernet cable and plug in USB drive

Power up TB

On smartphone, search for 'Volumio' network

Connect with password 'volumio2'

USB drives shows up as a source

Access and play 'Don't Stop Believin''

Dance around the room. :character-beavisbutthead:

Note: may be handy to check that the Hotspot is active before disconnecting from ethernet.
I'm a afraid I don't understand all of that, but will have to find someone local who will be able to help me out.
I know I can purchase the Tinkerboard S and appropriate case, but what size sd card will I need?

8 GB should do nicely.

What are you using to power your TB, I'm thinking about this.

Mine is from Tomanek in Poland.

http://tomanek.net.pl/tomanek-ulps-mini ... 2-pi3.html

You can email them in English. Very friendly.

Alternatives you could consider:

Sbooster: https://www.sbooster.com/botw-pp-eco-5v-6v/
Teradak: https://www.teradak.com/products/114.html

There are quite a lot of linear psu's thar are suitable these days.
Make sure you get a 5V supply with 3A minimum.

I think the LPS maybe a upgrade at a later date when funds permit. For now I'll have to stick to the cheaper smps.

A reasonable phone/tablet charger that outputs 5V/3A will certainly get you going.

savvypaul wrote: Sun May 31, 2020 10:47 am While we are waiting for Tomasz to return, we are doing more planning for our set up at shows. In your experience, guys, if we want to play hi-res FLAC files from an external hard drive, and assuming no access to reliable wi-fi, what set up would you ideally put together?
My setup would then be a standalone (Windows, I have no experience with Apple gear) laptop with the music on the internal disk or a USB drive.

Foobar2000 media player program

AQ Jitterbug (plus maybe a second one in an adjoining USB socket

Reasonable USB cable (see the Oehlbach one that is now on offer)

Oehlbach XXL Masterclock

Good USB cable, like AQ Carbon

That Grace USB DAC you got recently from Drop.

What I am wondering is if a Volumio-rigged laptop can be used as a standalone player plus a USB disk music file library.
Windows 10 home or pro? Or makes no difference?

Shouldn't make any difference as far as I can tell.

Slinger, Terry and Lindsay might know better.
