Re: Introduce Yourselves
Welcome firebug. Another vinyl user, the more the merrier! What Rega TT/arm/cart are you using?
You really should try an amp, no risk 30 day trial, be surprised if it comes back though. ........then a phono stage of course.

Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC, Parasound JC3+, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

Re: Introduce Yourselves
Hiya, I'm Steve,
Originally from Manchester but now living in Glasgow. I work for the beeb as a freelance picture editor. Been into hi-fi since the late seventies. My first proper system was JPW AP2, Mission Cyrus mk2 and some model Gerrard record deck with a S shaped arm. Biggest mistake was selling the JPWs
I had Hayden Boardman who sometimes writes for Hi-Fi World refurbish a pair of Leak TL12+s I was given as payment for making a tv commercial for Practical HiFi in Manchester back in the early nineties. Hayden is a great guy and I loved listening to his encyclopedic knowledge of all things valve and retro. I ended up with a pair of Lowther Acoustas to go with the Leaks.
Since then I've been through tons of kit from single ended valve amps to gainclones to class d amps and everything in between.
The one piece of kit that I've kept was my NVA P50 se, holco version. It's a keeper.
At the moment I'm using an Onkyo TRN 626 (don't laugh it uses a darlington output) Sony Blu-Ray player and a Sony SACD player into a pair of Wharfedale 121s using NVA LS1 speaker cable.
Nice to meet you all.

Re: Introduce Yourselves
Welcome pensator. What is a Holco p50.
As an impoverished student in the early 90s I used to look longingly in the hiFi shops on Bridge Street.

Re: Introduce Yourselves
Welcome Steve, good to have you with us.
Holco is the "make" of the stepped attenuator in the P50(sa). Google is your friend.Daniel Quinn wrote:Welcome pensator. What is a Holco p50.

Re: Introduce Yourselves
Allow me to rephrase. Google is your ENEMY! I took my info from an Audio Circle forum post from 2009. On reflection, the gent stating that he's using "a NVA P50 passive pre-amp with holco stepped attenuator feeding my Virtue One" in that post is probably the same Steve, a.k.a. Pensator, who is stating it here. My apologies for believing something I found on the internet Doc.
