There must be something strange in the Norwegian fjords that so much powerful and original Jazz music is originating there. Here we have Jaga Jazzist - a young collective that blends jazz, rock and electro into a heady and thoroughly enjoyable mix.

Chick Corea reassembles his all-star Elektric Band after a 10-year hiatus and plunges into serious Return To Forever territory with a concept album based on one of L. Ron Hubbard's Sci-fi epics.

Incredibly complex music that the superb musicians here play with total mastery. Dave Weckl's polyrhythmic drumming is millisecond-precise, Frank Gambale shreds and soothes with his guitar. John Patitucci is impeccable, as always, on bass and Eric Marienthal provides sweet sax and lets rip when called-for.

This album tells the story of the people on a long voyage through space and the music transports you through an array of moods and atmospheres.

Just call it a masterpiece.
