The time is 17.52, I'm lying at an angle of 4.3 degrees relative to the long side of my bed. :ugeek:

Given the perjorative nature of this statement...

couldn't lie straight in bed
definition
Is unscrupulous or deceptive. Primarily heard in Australia.
I don't trust Paul at all—that guy couldn't lie straight in bed.

...and that the only thing left for the recipient to say is 'fuck off'...

...is anyone feeling a bit more love for the ad hom rule?

No, its not, its you saying
This doesn't fluctuate
And I said "yes it does", and then you went on to show that it does. while seemingly suggesting that it showed you were right.

I also then said "but while it varies, its not that much of an issue".

And you continued to show that it does.

Playing semantics doesn't prove your point.

You need to step back and think about what you are saying.

I'll leave this open for the rest of the day, in case there are any other views on the ad hom rule.

However, it will be moderated, as normal, from this point on.

I don't see any problem with the rule, if an individual becomes a problem it is a simple enough matter to report the offending posts to a moderator. The whole point is to discuss the subject matter, not the individual posting it. I may disagree with what, for example, DQ* says but that is no excuse for calling him names, or worse. I actually find arguments between members rather uninteresting, especially when it becomes a case of "you said X", "no I didn't I was saying that you said Y".

*Sorry DQ, I don't disagree with what you say just an example.

I don't mind. It's a forum. It's only of interest if we learn something. Happy to be used as an example.

I think the Ad-Hom rule should stay. It was and is part of this forum's rules we all know that. Some will abuse it or try to circumnavigate it, that seems to be part of human nature. Then its down to the moderators to pick up on it and from what I've seen they do a pretty good job. For some one who has fallen foul of it and been told so by both the previous and current owners of this forum all I can say is this. Did I think it was right at the time. probably not. Did it change my opinion of poster. Definitely not. Did it make me consider my future reply's. Definitely. Have I become less judgmental, probably not
