Re: Favourite Bassist
I'd be lost without lines as I've always had them on my fretless basses (why did I ever sell my fabulous Aria SB900 FL, for God's sake?!), but I do have to remember that fret lines become less accurate as guides the higher up the neck you go.

Jack Bruce
Mani
Paul McCartney
In 1989 I was inspired to take up bass by Jack Bruce's work with Cream. Specifically his solos in their live recording of "Crossroads". Unfortunate really. Had I tried to emulate a simpler style I may have felt more successful. :-D

Re: Favourite Bassist
I've still got my (frankly, rather gorgeous) Hudson spalted maple unlined.
The theory was that practising on the lined would make it easier for me to hit the sweet spots on the unlined. That's rather moot now though, as my hands don't seem to be getting any better - arthritis I think - and I can't actually play for any length of time.

Re: Favourite Bassist
There's very little info on the web about them, but by digging around I've discovered that they were custom made for a shop in Wales (Cranes), and the owner just so happened to be a mate of someone at Tanglewood and it's assumed that he got Tanglewood to make them up for him.
They're almost identical to the Tanglewood Canyon III.
The late Maartin Allcock (Fairport Convention/Jethro Tull) rocked a red one, but it's not as pretty as mine. That's literally all I know about them.
[EDIT] You probably worked it out for yourselves by the controls, but it's an "active."

Re: Favourite Bassist
The 'wood' is not so much a veneer, as a "cap," it's 15cm thick.
This is a Hudson headstock btw
