Soft Machine '5' (1972)

Their first record after the departure of Robert Wyatt. The drum stool being occupied by Phil Howard and John Marshall (who is still there). Roy Babbington also makes an appearance on Contrabass.

Unashamedly jazzy and explorative, Soft Machine had totally lost their psychedelic roots by this time and were creating phenomenal music.

I've had a few versions of this and the best mastering that I have heard is on the 5CD 'Original Album Classics' set that includes the albums from 'Third' to 'Seven' at a budget price.
