Re: Your last listen
Oh, yeah, remember that now. Don't think I'd have got away with it, either. My mum only accepted my Stiff Little Fingers badges when I told her that Churchill did the V-sign that way, too...nilsatisnisioptimum wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 10:53 pmFirst tour was 77 headlined by Costello & Ian Dury Second in78 was the train tour but no Costello or Ian Dury with only Wreckless Eric from the first tour -- I had a tour tee shirt that proudly stated ",if it ain't Stiff, its not worth a fuck"

Uriah Heep !
This is a thing I've never known before
It's called easy livin'
This is a place I've never seen before
And I've been forgiven
Easy livin' and I've been forgiven
Since you've taken your place in my heart

Re: Your last listen
Eloy - 'Time to Turn'
Eloy - Time to Turn (Full Album)
Some time in the early 80's I picked up a 2LP pack from an obscure German band called Eloy. The albums were 'Planets' and 'Time to Turn'. UK label Heavy Metal Records had decided to issue these albums and had well-known fantasy artist Rodney Matthews make some new sleeve artwork for them. Actually I think I bought the albums primarily for the cover-art.
The thing about Eloy, certainly at the time, thet were one of the best bands in integrating elegant and multi-layered synth/electronics in a rock format. On 'Time to Turn' you can hear that they have been listening closely to fellow-Germans Tangerine Dream and albums like 'Exit'.
Solid, tight playing with some fine adventurous songs are also hallmarks of Eloy. The only weakness (or annoyance) are the vocals which can sound distinctly teutonic and you do wish that they had had a better singer at times. The instrumental workouts are great, though.
Eloy certainly deserve a place in the Prog first- division, along with the likes of Saga, Marillion and Rush.

Re: Your last listen
They were at there best with Byron and Hensly in the band and have made some good albums since. Sceduled to play in Cardiff later this year as are a number of bands I like including Nightwish. I will not be buying any tickets until we are out of the woods.
