As to the Sony ES speakers - they made one named the APM-22ES which by all accounts were very good indeed. Not sure if that's a foam surround on the bass unit though - I'll bet getting a replacement (bound to be needed by now) would be a nightmare if it is.

I have done a little search and there is something strange going on. Yes the Sony SS-A1 is their copy of the BBC LS3/5a without the BBC licence, but this set at ebay have square drivers unless I am imagining things, but according to all the photos on line of the SS-A1 they have normal round drivers - so someone is confused apart from me.
