New Guest
We have acquired one of these
She (we checked) just decided one day to walk in our front door looking very hungry. She now lives on our roof and comes down to eat and comes very close but wont allow herself to be picked up as she did that first day. She spends the night in one of our conifers. I have bought her a Dovecote which we will put up soon. Hopefully she will live in it. We might have to get her a mate. We call her Luvvy Dovey
A local buzzard or hawk tried to get her the other day when she was feeding, probably because she is so visible. Anyway it just missed grabbing her and she escaped and I had to chase the bird of prey away.

She's a beauty Doc, strange how she allowed you to pick her up on the first day and you cannot now. Hope she bring many hours of enjoyment, and of course peace and tranquillity.

Re: New Guest
I was out when she arrived. Phlakaton was bringing an amp back that had gone wrong, and Nadia said he asked "is this yours" as it stood beside him and then followed him into the house. It is a release dove that they use at weddings and events and they normally home when released at a ceremony of some sort. This one obviously got lost or is a bit thick and no leg ring. Unless fed and looked after by humans they cannot survive in the wild, so it seems she adopted us to feed her. She wont use the feeders, all Doves are ground feeders. And she has Collared Doves and big fat Woodies for company in the garden. Odds are she wont survive as a bird of prey or a cat will get her. She is not on the roof this morning, which is a bit worrying.

By the way the one in the pic is not ours, I just got a Google picture. That is a male, bigger chest, domed forehead. Females are thinner in neck and chest and generally a little smaller than the males and have flatter heads.
Google is such an asset.

Quite a menagerie you're gathering there. I take it the pidgeons won't like her.
