Re: Grado Prestige cartridges
I paid £350 for it plus a trip to Cumbria to pick it up. So as you can imagine I'm feeling pretty pissed off about it now. I think know the best thing I can do is ebay it. I don't want to start throwing monet at it. Fuck! Miller time.

Re: Grado Prestige cartridges
NO NO NO, you wont have to throw money at it. Both myself and Alfi think it will solve by trying the earth lead to the mains from the chassis. There is an earth point on the chassis with a thin black lead going to the earth terminal on the back of the TT. First try what I said about the 13amp plug and a wire from the earth pin to that terminal. Second if that doesn't work then remove that wire from the screw on the chassis and replace it with the the lead from that 13amp plug. Either of those is almost certain to cure it.

Progmeister.
The Vinyl engine has a downloadable US operating instructions manual for the PL71 and it shows the exact same voltage selector on page 10.
If you earth from the mains as Doc suggested it may kill the hum.
Your PL71 looks to be in excellent condition and you'll only regret selling it . Don't do it as Doc suggests.

It's a VERY good sounding turntable AND the arm is one of the very best detachable-shell (SME) types ever made. Don't knee-jerk PLEASE!!!

*ANY BIT OF OLD CABLE* as long as long enough will do the job to find out if that is it.

Well, done all these things and it's just the same. Quiet as a church mouse until I press ether the 33 or 45 button. Certainly looks like I bought a dud. Storage for now until I get chance to restore it to how I received it. Then I will be getting shot. Fingers burnt lesson learned.
