New Year

Unread post by slinger »

I'm not going to be ambitious (or stupid) enough to wish everyone a "Happy" new year, but I do wish you all a new year that is better than the old one was. I think that's just about achievable. :grin:

When i am lying on my death bed 2015 will be a memorable year largely thanks to toddler dq and my family. I am fairly sure these are my salad days. I would recommend becoming a dad for the first time at 46 to anyone. 45 years of hedonism followed by hopefully 45 years of fatherhood.

Happy new year all.

I hope next year is better.
Can't be much worse than December has been.
I was floored by a flu virus on 2nd December, which was bad enough, but then I got complications, which led to the virus spreading to both my middle ears. This created havoc with my hearing. Then on 16th December, right in the middle of the rampant complications, the right hand side of my face stopped working and dropped about half an inch. On phoning the doctor, I was taken to hospital where I was tested for stroke, including CT scan etc. Luckily this came back negative and I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy and referred to an ENT specialist.
An audiogram revealed that I have nothing above 8KHz. The ENT guy is hoping the damage done by the virus is not permanent and will resolve, but "eventually" is the operative word. He reckons it could take months for my hearing to sort itself out. I was given steroids for the Bells Palsy and some mobility has come back to my face over the past couple of weeks, but again ENT have said that patience will be needed as there is no set time frame for Bells Palsy to resolve; could be weeks, could be as long as a year.

At the moment my system sounds like a 1973 Boots Ferric C90 cassette tape, with curly edges, being played on a machine with misaligned heads and a dirty capstan and pinch roller. Stereo is phasey and fluttery at the top end.

My old Baird valve wireless is what provides my music, via Classic FM and that sounds fine. Mono frequency restricted sources don't cause problems unlike stereo, which is frankly hideous.
One can only hope that the hearing and the Bells Palsy resolve by Spring, otherwise after 40 years, hi-fi of any description is over for this listener.

There's always someone worse off than me I suppose. At least I'm not starving in Syria, and I can still hold a conversation with people.

So we get a traditional forum Jammy New Year :roll:

Remember Jammy you don't have a licence to insult anymore, you will be edited. Enjoy yer booze, think of us as your drinking partners, no pub car park fights. Though traditional Jammy Vogan poetry is allowed when you get so pissed it all becomes freeform booze talk.

Happy New Year to you all!

Mrs Hincapie and I have just had our first bucket of Hendrick's and Fever Tree and are about to sit down to toad in the hole and a nice Malbec. Does life get any better?

I hope you all have a good night and I wish you all the very best for 2016! Time to get pissed eh? :guiness;

Traditional Russian salad. A Russian salad is a meal on its own and delicious, it is not a few limp leaves and a bit of tomato and salad cream :roll: meat is hot and spicy chicken wings and ham hock. Wine is sweet North African red. And a Tokai to go with the cakes and goodies for afters.

Just doing a Muccus :lol: :lol:
