Youtube Tuition Vids

After enjoyable read of Karatestu's ''my 15 mins of fame'' thread, got the urge to learn a instrument,
big fan of live music (avid goer to Celtic Connections) and always marvelled at the musicianship of fiddlers,
don't want to go as far as professional tuition, thinking of learning at home and at my own pace,
so..... has anyone learnt to play an instrument following the multitude of videos on Youtube?,
would be nice to get to a standard of following the reels with the occasional bum note. :shifty:

If youtube had been around when i learnt then i think i would have used it.

What instrument are you going to learn ? There are lots of options, some physically larger than others and some noisier than others. It was hard to be quiet when learning drums but volume control does come with experience and maturity.

If i was going to learn another instrument it would probably be keyboards. I know, a poor substitute for a piano (another percussion instrument  ) but they are small, portable and come with a headphone socket and volume control.

Good luck with your new found interest. :epopc:

Harmonica. No wait triangle would be a nice easy one to learn. Just make sure you can do it better than Baldrick

Seriously. Go for it. Life is too short to say nay.

I'm still learning guitar, been at it for years but I'm strictly a chords man, I don't think I'll ever be a shredder

Alfi, what is a shredder ? Nothing wrong with chords only. Music is in the feel and emotion, if you can do that then you have cracked it.

Plenty food for thought there gents, anything easier than a triangle,
love to play the fiddle like those folkies. 8-)

The Uke's a after thought, seen Frank Skinner program on it long time ago and thought it a easier option than a Guitar,
no doubt it's not as easy as he or George Formby makes out to be.
