Re: An Exercise in Daftness.
Ooops...i've done it again Steve, wink..wink.. ,
Seriously nice looking amp,i likey a lot, are you gonna leave the transformer uncovered?,
not that it's ugly but would be nicer to enclose in a chrome cover to reflect the valve glow,
my opinion of course.

Re: An Exercise in Daftness.
Finished it this afternoon.
I threw caution to the wind and just connected it up, let the heaters warm through for five minutes then threw the HT switch with a long stick.
It lives! It plays! There is no hum! Wahay!

Re: An Exercise in Daftness.
Any photos of the inside, now that it's in a working state?
And how does it sound compared to your existing amplification?

Re: An Exercise in Daftness.
Cheers chaps,
I'll put some pics up of the inside later on. It's not going to be a pic of neat wiring looms as I gave up on that years ago. All you get with tied in looms is increased stray capacitance, which can cause weird phenomena, ranging from poor HF response to RF pickup.
It's simply point to point with a couple of nice PCBs for the driver stages, designed by my forum colleague Ray, on Audio-Talk. The small signal tubes are DC heated from a DIYHiFiSupply module.
I'll talk about the sound later on.

I was taught years ago that on first switch on, in the absence of a variac, the first assumption you make is that the amplifier will explode.
The insides:
Not a pretty sight, but there is no hum or noise.
