Mmmm. That Tangent CDP looks really nice.

From a Danish company and I would guess that it's using the same drive mechanism as the Pro-ject Box S, which Richard was also looking at for his proposed NVA CDP a couple of years ago.

My Sony CDP930XB had gone to meet its maker and as the missus and me were in York on a coach trip, we decided it would be a good time to replace the shagged out Sony with something a bit more modern.

This little player has no programming, no display and is a black box with a slot on the front to take the CD. Controls are stop, pause, start, forward 1, back 1. You insert a CD and it plays: thats it! This is hair shirt CD playback taken to its absolute limits.

The amount of music that comes out of this black box is staggering considering the price. Richard would have approved.
Great service from the guys at the York branch goes without saying.
Sounds like a clever purchase.

Did you get owt from the Christmas market in Parliament Street ?

Nah...Spent the day boozing (only a pint mind) and eating in the ‘Hole In The Wall’ and various little tea rooms and cafes (not Betty’s) browsing the bookshops and feeding the squirrels in the Museum Gardens.

I recently considered getting the Tangent player but I was put off by mention of it putting gaps into continuous play CDs. Have you noticed any issue with that Steve?

Yes. If you are into prog or Mahler, you’re stuffed. It doesn’t bother me as I don’t play DSOTM or Mahler 8 very much these days. However gapless playback is a stupid omission in my view, particularly when the player sounds so good. A workaround would be to rip your CD to two files as if it were an LP with two sides, then burn the two files to a CDR.

Thanks for that Steve.

I don't listen to DSOTM much either but WYWH gets occasional listens. Thanks for the ripping tip
