I know bookshelve speakers and bass are generally a compromise but is there anything that I can pickup from my local Richer Sounds that have a reasonable about of bass?

Currently have a pair of Q Acoustic 3010’s and they are sublime in all regards except bass, using a test tone generator the lowest I can hear is 75Hz (at a low level), the speaker’s frequency lower range is stated as 68Hz and I am missing out on a lot of bass guitar.

Quite constrained on space as they need to go either side of a TV. Any suggestions please?

You need a Bass Bin, or in Hi-Fi parlance, a Sub.

A subwoofer (it can go in the corner of the room), or a pair of speakers with a 12" woofer (but doubt that RS will have any), or a set of Cube 1 or 2 (occasionally turn up in the classifieds).

Bass is physics. Any small, forward firing bookshelf speaker that goes much below around 70hz will be doing it by port tuning - in other words, imitation bass.

A subwoofer… absolutely, many thanks as I do love the little Q’s.

Just a case of finding a spot for it…

Cubes are fantastic, having heard them at Richard’s in Epping but we always end up with houses with alcoves and high ceilings.

I don't know how your telly's situated, but the sub for my AV system is tucked out of the way, behind my TV

We have a run of units flush against the wall but there is a gap on the left hand side where a sub will fit and possibly at the end of one sofa.

Richard famously did not like subs. But i think if you can find a decent second hand one that can be moved on with no or little money lost then there is nothing to lose if you don't like it.

It may take considerable time to integrate successfully but if you manage to pull it off then winner winner chicken dinner. You'll have to play with variables like phase and filter knee frequency. Who knows what order the filter will be but I presume subs mostly use fourth order ??? so they can disappear and not be located.
