I'd put 'pretty things' in the Veblen category. I'd put that fuse in the piss take category.

I suspect dealers told Technics that the 1200 was too cheap.

Think this has a lot to do with the power of the Internet and bake offs. There is a realisation that the entrenched beliefs from past decades about the superiority of the LP12 and belt drives in general had no foundation.
