Panzerholz - best audio use ?

Stumbled across a few large blocks of panzerholz ( engineered beech/birch plywood ) I got many years ago for an audio project. At the time it was to build a composite ( with aluminium / acrylic ) turntable plinth and for armboards for my Lenco. However since then I have noticed several audio compani...

Re: PMC

All that matters is how a speaker works in a typical listening room. Cubes, appropriately positioned, are designed for this and opinions on how they sound at a show are of little value. Spot on. Cubes need to be heard in the environment they were designed for ie home environments. I too have heard ...

Re: Allo Katana Dac

The Katana was I believe discontinued last September by Allo citing it was too difficult to manufacture economically. They have since brought out a standalone USB dac called Revolution ( only 1 PSu needed ) to good reviews so far - https://www.allo.com/sparky/revolution-dac.html But Allo are apparen...

Re: Dual mono or separate transformers for input- and outputstage?

I think Nick is making a valid point illustrating how difficult it is to design a PSU given the complex interactions between all the connected components. I recall a post by Colin Wonfor making similar comments about the complexity of PSU’s. Richard’s design works for NVA but as designers I suspect ...

Re: Dual mono or separate transformers for input- and outputstage?

Yes lots of options but as Tom mentioned in his earlier post Richard had tried many permutations and in the end settled on 4 separate transformers. I am in no way qualified to argue with that so I will stick to the NVA way.

Re: Dual mono or separate transformers for input- and outputstage?

Lurcher300b wrote In the case of the power output stage then again the size of the cap and the output the load requires controls how much it is discharged. The size of the transformer controls how fast the cap is charges up, and if the transformer can't supply enough current in each 100th of a seco...

Re: Dual mono or separate transformers for input- and outputstage?

We now use 25v to give a little extra headroom to the boards. The boards were originally designed to see 230v from the mains. In the UK most people are now seeing an average of 240 plus. Good point. My PSU on my mains ( c 238v ) with 30v transformers gives a 46vDC offset a bit close to 50vDC. But I...

Re: Dual mono or separate transformers for input- and outputstage?

I have found seperate transformer and psu for each channel improves channel separation , detail and stereo effects. IMO separating each channels psu into two is very worthwhile also. ...But then when you look at the lengths Richard would go to with transformer size (phono3) then maybe bigger is bet...
