Re: Coronavirus restrictions: are they legal

Incidents such as the one captured in the last 90 seconds of this video. Was this arrest an unlawful one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvOAdzDHaDY Did the officer use the prevailing cultural climate of the time as a "go to" in order to use "the process as the punishment" on so...

Car insurance

I'm getting the impression that car insurance costs may have come down in the last 12 months. With it still being worth - as always - having a shop around for quotes when renewal time comes up. And to try different options when getting quotes. For example, my insurance company quoted me £1000 for 3r...

Re: Binge watching TV

I agree. Brilliant is a fair description.

The first 2 episodes were a televisual feast.
It's funny how this trilogy of series is under the radar in the UK.

But then I guess if it's not in English a lot of people don't want to know.

Re: Binge watching TV

Tonight I'll be watching the 2nd episode of The Kingdom from 1994.

The first episode was an interesting mix of genres. It's a spooky nordic hospital drama.

Re: Film recommendations.

Looking at the list of Alec Guiness films, I think that this would make up a highly watchable box set. 1934 Evensong Uncredited extra 1946 Great Expectations Herbert Pocket as an adult 1948 Oliver Twist Fagin 1949 Kind Hearts and Coronets The Duke, The Banker, The Parson, etc 1949 A Run for Your Mon...

Re: Film recommendations.

Personally I'd rather watch a box set of all the Ealing comedies / Alec Guiness (apart from Star Wars) / Peter Sellers (non pink panther) films
I'm All Right Jack
The Ladykillers
The Lavender Hill Mob
Whisky Galore
Dr Strangelove
Etc

Re: Are we cursed geeks?

An audiophile is someone who wants the highest-fidelity audio Go on other forums or go to hi-fi themed meetings and you'll see that many people spend a lot on audio equipment and sacrifice highest fidelity for looks. And the convenience of buying from their local dealers. Or the perceived cachet of...

Re: A sudden loss.

7 years ago yesterday (Sept 6th 2017) my wife died, and I truly don't want anyone else. Not that anyone else would put up with me, obviously. I guess I'm more like my dad. If I were to find myself single again, I wouldn't hang around getting someone else in. Where I differ from my dad is that I'd n...

Re: A sudden loss.

My dad's 2nd wife died after a long downhill decline with Parkinson's. At her funeral my father was coming out with the "No-one will ever replace her" rhetoric. A week later he joined a dating-matchmaking agency. It was marketed and priced as a high-end agency. If Linn Klimax was turned in...
