Re: Another Allison 6 refurb thread!
A good bond can be achieved with probably less than you'd first imagine. If you're applying by tube, you can 'zig zag' it fairly lightly on both surfaces, I've been giving it 15-20 mins to go tacky before bonding the two surfaces with a tap. This is with 8mm plate. The difference the plating makes i...

Re: The £100 Speaker Challenge
Mules takes pole position with the Triangles, which seem to have been quite a bargain given the RRP. I'm yet to listen to any of this brands products, but will certainly look to do so in the future. The horn loaded tweeter is interesting and Triangle seems to have a reputation for speakers that don'...

The £100 Speaker Challenge
This thread is directly linked to the speaker bake off planned for later this year. However, i thought the question deserved discussion in its own right, so here goes.. Just what can you acheive with a total budget of £100 in 2016? Whether this be new, vintage or DIY, it is up to you. If you are pla...

DQ, re: wax (and other wood finishing), good prep (clean and sand) seems to play a big part in success. Any residue build up in terms of old cleaning product will seriously hamper. You can start with a medium steel wool, moving onto fine and then very fine (00?). Wax onto unfinished wood does seem li...

Re: Cubettes
All is on course for the first two pairs to be finished this week. The plan is to get them back to the Doc at the weekend, so I imagine that they will ship to their new homes early next week.
Is anyone here in line for a pair?

Re: Allison Six refurb
What a great update, thanks Laz  I agree that the scale of sound is uncanny given the speaker cabinet dimensions. I have a pair of Visatons on order, so our parallel explorations continue! Your box of spares is still here, why don't you head down for the speaker bake off and collect these then?

Re: Kaz's Grand Speaker Festival
Great stuff Zebbo, perhaps you'd consider bringing your current Cube 1s along? In addition to what the Doc has mentioned, Royd will be fairly represented (Abbot, Minstrel and Eden), as will ARC (050, 101, 202) in both active and passive guises. I'd also like to see if we can get a little DIY competi...

Sequerra Met 7 MK 2 E
These arrived in quite a sorry state. Original bass/mid units doped and running straight through. New tweeters with just a capacitor and a resistor. Cabinets have been sanded back and oiled. After a few days fettling they are starting to sound quite special. I reckon the doped drivers will continue ...
