Re: My Opinion

I have to say that I'm finding some of the discussions on AOS incredibly tedious. Discussing the ins and outs of a platter for a zillion pages makes me think that some people's lives must be rather empty. I have already been told off for saying that anyone who constantly box swaps can't be enjoying ...

Re: Ripping, Storing, Playing CD collection - ideas...

Why do they have to be such rip-off prices compared with PCs when they do the same job and contain basically the same components, and are made in the same factories (or similar) in China. Why can you get a good PC for under £500 and yet the cheapest Mac is over £1000. Personally I just can't justif...

Re: Ripping, Storing, Playing CD collection - ideas...

P.S. My first Apple was in 1977, the Apple II Cripes. A bit hair shirt for me. I'm just a consumer and want white goods that just do what I want without any sodding about. I saw the Mac+ after playing with some DOS machines and it was just a different world back in 1985. Never looked back. Used PCs...

Re: Ripping, Storing, Playing CD collection - ideas...

I absolutely hate and detest PCs and anything that vaguely resembles a computer. I get rage just thinking about the things. Complete PITA. I am still speechless that no decent stand alone units exist which play and rip CDS and have a built in hard drive with network capability. All this faff with d...

Re: Ripping, Storing, Playing CD collection - ideas...

Bliss comes with 100 fixes, once you have set the prefs it goes off and makes changes i.e. Reduce artwork dimension or file size. You can imbedd or remove imbeded artwork along with enforcing singular artwork. Bliss often looks like nothing is happening but it gets there in the end. ITunes holds it...

Re: Ripping, Storing, Playing CD collection - ideas...

Just tried XLD and whilst I think I may have been able to hear a difference - a difference is not necessarily an improvement of course - I don't think it would prompt me to abandon the easy way with iTunes. I am just so used to it that it just seems natural to me. I've used it since it first came out.

Re: Ripping, Storing, Playing CD collection - ideas...

I was a MAX fan for a while, but the lack of ongoing updates and that when the CD drive went faulty it made no mention that the rips were just white noise. I now use XLD, a bit complex but it check agains the AccurateRip database to check the integrity of the rip. The number of times iTunes has upd...

Re: Ripping, Storing, Playing CD collection - ideas...

I find iTunes pretty adequate although 'MAX' (free I think) does a better job of ripping the files, although the differences are subtle, depends how anal you want to be. If you could stand a MacMini, they are so small that you could hide them completely. If there is AV equipment, I assume you could ...

Re: Obits

Sir John Taverner, one of Britain's leading composers of the last 50 years has died, aged 69. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/culture-obituaries/music-obituaries/10444987/Sir-John-Tavener-obituary.html Interesting man. Loved some of his music, hated most of it. Sad to die so young (I hav...

Re: Acos arm

Yup, I would like that but apparently, two CD players, a TT and four new Macs are enough new toys for this month

Why don't women understand?
