Reading the Doc's thoughts years ago convinced me about the rightness of his approach and the results speak for themselves.

Re: Plastic

The NVA casings look sleek and timeless and they wear very well (with minimal application of Windolene!).
As the Doc says, they are there for sonic reasons.
The only negative I can think of (having lived with NVA for 30+ years) is they do attract dust.
Naim are using acrylic these days.

Re: What was the first record you bought

The Police 'Roxanne' 7"single.
The 1st record I received (with my record player) was A Hard Day's Night.

Re: Last music purchase

Berlin Phil/Rattle
Beethoven all the symphonies
It's a high res recording reproduced on vinyl from a pair of mics placed above Rattle's head and sounds like the concert hall.
The sound of the orchestra is magnificent, Rattle's take is convincing too.

Re: Garrard 401

Update: 401: I replaced the idler wheel with the audiosilente model (although the original was in excellent shape) and the mains cable with AN. 3009: AN silver wire The results are outstanding and very close to the Doc's 301 setup. The 401 runs quiet. The Doc was right when he said that a Garrard wo...

Garrard 401

Hi,
I've acquired a 401 with a SME3009.
Any recommendations?
Thoughts on cartridges?
What about the plinth?
I know Zebbo made his own constrained layer. Impressive.
Here's an idea for the Doc: have you ever thought of using perspex to make one?
Cheers,
Max
