Re: You guys are a bad influence

Not sure you'd need the MF valve buffer.The first one was severely coloured sounding, although it beefed up the popular ear-ache Marantz CD63 KI Sig player we often sold them with. I did the full 'Rock Grotto' updates to mine and it transformed it for the better, but honestly not sure it has a place...

Re: ATC v AVI v EV bake-off

Anyone who thinks that AVI speakers have a CRYSTAL CLEAR midrange :hbs: deserves to have the piss taken out of them: https://www.whathifi.com/forum/hi-fi/flawed-speaker-design-vs-sony Don't be too hard on these people - they haven't heard better. The new DM30's may well be a bit (I say *a bit*) nea...

Re: Yorkshire HIFI club Phono Stage write up / results

I've checked the specs of the NW analogue cartridge and it 0.3mv output and a 3 ohm impedance. From that I would expect it to be about half volume using a passive pre with my Phono 2 unless something else in the specs is critical. Unless I'm mistaken, that's still a bit higher than a typical SPU an...

the phono 1 has a MAINS transformer in the same case. SUT's never crossed my mind!

Re: Yorkshire HIFI club Phono Stage write up / results

All the phono stages had a background hum problem apparently and my dealer-demming experience means 'to me' that the subjective comments can be all but ignored if there was background noise and hum induced into all the stages. Hum on a moving coil phono input is a definite no-no and in my experience...

Re: TOSLINK Leads

Look on CPC Andr'e. There's a Beresford looking one there for not much, but not sure about lengths though. Loads to choose from there. Mine is woven jacket and I'm sure less than a fiver.

Re: Project buy Musical Fidelity.

MF used to offer good service to end-users as long as parts were available, but they weren't always good for dealers to deal with and they had something of a reputation in my day (I knew AM from his M&A valve amp days and never had an issue with him personally, unlike my bosses who had something of ...

Re: NVA SSP mk1 => mk2

I knew the SSPmk1 cable type used as a bit dependant on the gear it's used with and not sure microwave-type cables work in some stereo setups where there's possibly a lot of uhf shit comping down the cabling that more basic cables damp out or filter away (all supposition of course). The SSPmk2 is di...
