Re: Cheap But Good Speakers.
I had both the SR80 and SR325i. The 80's are still around but, for me, the 325i was way too bright-sounding. They are also quite heavy and not the most comfortable. Eventually I settled on AKG K601's - very comfortable with a good, detailed sound that doesn't make your ears bleed. However I got a pa...

Re: Your last listen
Just treated myself to the 40th Anniversary Deluxe 2CD version of Supertramp's 'Crime of the Century' and have long forgotten how many editions of this I have had over the years. This album and the follow-up 'Crisis? What Crisis?' formed my introdution to Rock Albums in the mid-70's. First impressio...

Re: DSD and FLAC from Channel Classics
Thanks, I'll take a look at this - there also appears to be a complicated fix which allows Foobar to play the files. I did ask Jared Sacks about this yesterday, he said that a special DSD-compatible DAC was needed, any other solution downgrades the signal into a PCM stream and that for us mere morta...

DSD and FLAC from Channel Classics
I had some fun yesterday, Channel Classics had an open day at their HQ here in the village. Owner Jared Sachs has been making top notch recordings for about 30 years and the albums on his label have won just about every international prize there is. He spent the afternoon giving demonstrations in hi...

Re: Recording v Playing
Is the performance factor not important? What the artist is trying to get across is terms of a message or emotion or atmosphere? The function of an audio system is then to reproduce the intention of a performer and how well that is recorded is not so relevant.

Re: Star Wars is Back - beware of the Awakening!!
I remember going to see Star Wars in Manchester when it first came out. The queue ran right around the cinema. I think I saw it 2 or 3 times within a fortnight. Then same happened for 'Live and Let Die'.

Re: Star Wars is Back - beware of the Awakening!!
From the very beginning of Star Wars in the 1970's, George Lucas had 9 episodes planned - of which the original 3 films formed the central section.
Then came the 3 opening parts and now we get the trilogy that should bring the whole series to some sort of conclusion.
